What is Rainwater Harvesting?
Rainwater Harvesting is the collection of rainwater that falls onto your roof and then down your gutter through to your down pipe where you can save it into a tank or water butt. With the proper setup and filteration system your rainwater that is collected can then be used for your home and garden. There are many different setups and tank sizes, it's really best having an idea first on how much you are looking to save and what you want to use the rainwater collection for.
Why Rainwater Harvesting?
Rainwater Harvesting is environmently friendly and most of all the rainwater is free.
With the rise of water bills and hose pipe bans in the past few years it's been difficult and even more frustrating when you see rainwater being wasted. So saving rainwater yourself is becoming more popular eco friendly and saving huge costs on water.
If we Have a Hose Pipe Ban will Rainwater Harvesting Help Me?
Yes it will because you can use your rainwater that you haved stored is yours and legally you can use it however you please.
Can I go onto a Water Metre?
Yes you can. All you have to do is ring up your water board and they have to install a water metre on request of household owner. The installation is usally free of charge.
What is Grey Water?
Grey water is the waste water from bathing, showering or after using the dishwasher. A grey coloured water that can be recycled. However grey water needs to be filtered first and however clean and treated it is still not advised for drinking water.
Grey Water Recycling
So how does grey water recycling work? Well its simple all you would need to do is pipe your waste pipe into an existing rainwater harvesting filter where it can be cleaned and filtered then stored into your water tank.
What is Better Rainwater or Greywater?
Rainwater is better because it will always be cleaner than grey water that will contain dirt, soaps, detergents. However this does not mean that you can't use grey water for anything because after filteration you can use it for your garden and cleaning and washing your toilet.
Installation?
We don't actually install tanks we only sell them here, but your local builder will be able to install them.
Can I Use Rainwater Collection for Drinking?
Yes you can with the right setup and UV Filteration System in place.
What Other Accessories Do I Need ?
Depending on what you are having, with most of the rainwater collection systems you will need a water filter to clean the water and then a rainwater diverter to direct the water. From here you will need a water pump to pump the water from the tank. Depending on what tank you might need a tap kit to draw the water.
How Do I Know Which Size Tank To Buy?
You buy the tank to suit your needs. So if you just want a water butt to use for your garden you can choose whatever size depending on how much water you intend to use. For rainwater harvesting it's best to go by the size of your roof top. For a standard three bedroom house usually a 2800 litre will do for the home and garden.
Can I use a Water Butt For Rainwater Harvesting?
Yes you can its the same process as using an above ground water tank.
What are the Tanks Made of?
All Ecosure Tanks are made from MDPE (medium density polyethylene) a type of hard wearing plastic thats suitable for holding large litres of water.
What Happens If Theres No Rain?
When there is not enough rainwater inside the tank you have the option of it turning on the mains automatically or manually. |
